Singaporean forward Ikhsan Fandi had an evening to remember as he scored a brace during his side BG Pathum United’s 3-1 over United City, Sunday evening, in the 2022 AFC Champions League at the Pathum Thani Stadium in Thailand.
The 23-year-old striker scored past United City goalie Anthony Pinthus in the 29th and 39th minutes of the match to give the Thai League 1 club a resounding 3-0 cushion just before the break. Beforehand, Brazilian import Diogo Luis Santo broke the deadlock with a fine finish at the 17th minute.
United City, though, found the back of the net deep in the second half but it was a case of too little too late. Mark Hartmann pulled one back for the reigning Philippines Football League champions at the 79th minute to salvage some pride for this club.
The outcome means BG Pathum United leads Group G with 10 points while United City are yet to tally a point this campaign.
Both teams will resume their campaigns on Wednesday at the same venue. BG Pathum United (10 points) plays Melbourne City at 7:00 PM while United City (0 points) goes up against Jeonnam Dragons at 10:00 PM.
