PFL: Gayoso sinks winner vs United City as Kaya-Iloilo defends turf

Jarvey Gayoso scored the winner as Kaya-Iloilo successfully defended home soil to take a major 2-1 victory over United City in the 2022-2023 Philippines Football League, Saturday, at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

The former Ateneo de Manila University star slotted home the winning goal in the 78th minute from close range off an assist by teammate Ryo Fujii.

Gayoso’s goal capped off what was an entertaining game of football. Yu Hoshide’s men broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Arnel Amita struck past United City stopper Anthony Pinthus with a fine finish.

The visitors then equalized just before the halftime break. Kaya defender Audie Menzi was adjudged to have committed a handball inside the box, which allowed United City forward Kenshiro Daniels to score a penalty in the 45+2 minute.

In the game’s dying moments, Gayoso looked to have secured a brace in the 90+1 minute, only to be called for offside.

A few sequences after, United City was able to put the ball at the back of the net but their potential equalizer in the 90+4 minute was ruled out after a foul was spotted by referee Clifford Dapuyat.

The result meant that Kaya extended its lead at the top of the standings to 30 points behind 10 wins and two defeats.

On the other hand, United City remained in second place with 24 points on the back of seven wins, three draws, and one defeat.
