After clinching quarterfinals spot, Yeng Guiao no longer thinking about top pick

The NLEX Road Warriors completed their turnaround on Sunday night after picking up their sixth win of the conference at the expense of the grand slam-seeking San Miguel Beermen.

However, with the way things are going for the Road Warriors, the potential to nab the first pick in the 2017 PBA Draft that might be headlined by Kiefer Ravena or Jeron Teng is slowly slipping away.Gilas-practice-Kiefer-Ravena-1771 After clinching quarterfinals spot, Yeng Guiao no longer thinking about top pick Basketball News PBA - philippine sports news

Though the pick was once the most coveted possession of Guiao, it has taken a backseat as racking up the wins this conference is now the top priority.2017-PBA-DLeague-Foundation-Cup-Semifinals-Game-2-CEU-def-Flying-V-Jeron-Teng After clinching quarterfinals spot, Yeng Guiao no longer thinking about top pick Basketball News PBA - philippine sports news

“Hindi na namin iniisip yun,” Guiao remarked about the matter after NLEX’s 103-100 win, Sunday night.

“Bahala na yun sa buhay niya.”

And after picking up a total of just four wins in the last two conferences, the seven-time PBA champion likes where they are now, sitting with a 6-2 record.

“I like it very much,” Guiao beamed. Even our loss against Blackwater, they needed to shoot 17 three-pointers just to beat us by one point. That’s a great consolation.”

Instead of hoping to nab either Ravena or Teng, Guiao is now dreaming about something more tangible.

“We can look forward to getting into the top four and getting the twice-to-beat advantage,” the first-year NLEX head coach said.

“Feeling namin may karapatan na kaming mangarap mag-top four.”
