Allen Durham credits familiarity with Meralco for triple-double outing

When Allen Durham already had 13 points, five rebounds, and six assists after the first half of the Meralco Bolts’ bout against the Kia Picanto Sunday night, it was inevitable that a rare triple-double performance was about to unravel.

And it happened.

The 2016 Governor’s Cup Best import finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists, powering the Meralco Bolts to their fourth straight win at the expense of the still-winless Kia Picanto, 112-97, at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

“It was just cool,” said the 29-year-old Wyoming, Michigan-born forward of his triple-double.

It was the second triple-double this 2017 Governor’s Cup, with TNT Katropa import Michael Craig notching the feat as well during his debut last July 28 in Antipolo City.

But Durham was quick to add that his performance would not be what it is if it were not for the effort of his teammates.

“I can’t take the credit for it,” said Durham, who is averaging 24.0 points, 19.5 rebounds, and 8.5 assists. “The guys gotta knock down the shots for the assists and everything like that.

“It’s kinda nice –- big man had a triple-double. It’s cool.”

With that said, the former French League cager and former Barako Bull import believes that it is familiarity that led not just to his career night, but to the way the Orangemen have been running in the season-ending conference as well.

“It’s everything. Like I told people weeks before, we got chemistry off the court as well. We all hang out off the court. It just makes thing so much smoother when we on the court,” said Durham, who has been a globetrotter since 2011.

“Everybody trusting everybody. I think that’s why we’re playing really well right now.”
