Coach Chot compares Guadaña’s tenacity to Ryan Reyes

Batang Gilas had a very special guest during their game against Indonesia Monday afternoon. Their big brothers, Gilas Pilipinas, were in full attendance sitting at courtside to watch them take a 96-73 win for their second win in as many games.

“We are just here to support the younger generation. We are very supportive of them and we are looking forward to them taking our place in the future,” coach Chot Reyes said.

And the youth team did not disappoint their senior counterparts, showing flashes that drew oohs and ahhs from the likes of Calvin Abueva and Troy Rosario.

The star the shone the brightest, though, was Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite swingman Mclaude Guadaña. The 16-year-old posted a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in 29 minutes of action.

For the native of Tagaytay, he is just grateful to just be part of the youth team.

“Nagpapasalamat ako na yun nga, nakuha ako dito sa Under 16 na team,” said Guadaña, who averaged 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds during the 92nd season of the NCAA.

“Sa dinadami dami na mas matataas na team, siyempre yung Lyceum nagsisimula palang, alam naman po namin na tataas din kami at matataas yung team namin into championship.”

The control and tenacity he displayed throughout the game did not go unnoticed, as coach Chot praised Guadaña, comparing him to his former player in Talk ‘N Text Ryan Reyes.2017-SEABA-U16-Philippines-def-Indonesia-Mclaude-Guadana Coach Chot compares Guadaña's tenacity to Ryan Reyes 2017 SEABA Championship 2017 SEABA U-16 Basketball Gilas Pilipinas News - philippine sports news

“Si number six reminds me of Ryan Reyes.

“He’s always there where the ball is,” the five-time coach of the year told Tiebreaker Times.

The 5-foot-10 player could not hide his delight once he was notified of what Reyes said.

“Masaya kami kasi kada-shoot namin, chini-cheer up niya kami,” he gushed.

“Sobrang flattering. Nakakatuwa na sinabi ni coach Chot yun pero kailangan ko pa magsipag.”
