Lady Spikers ground Lady Falcons, near second-round sweep

A week before another titanic clash against the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, razor-sharp defending champions De La Salle University Lady Spikers sliced through the winless Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16, Saturday afternoon at the SM Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The match had plenty of La Salle highlights and few of Adamson. Lady Falcons’ skipper Jema Galanza kept the match close at several points, but the balanced La Salle onslaught was too much for one player to power through.

Season 78 Finals MVP Kianna Dy sat the match out after suffering a left ankle sprain in their win over the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses last Wednesday. La Salle, however, had sufficient offense off the bench to patch the hole she left.

Middle blocker Majoy Baron tallied 13 points, while Desiree Cheng added eight markers.

“Medyo mabagal ‘yung simula namin kaya binigyan lang namin sila nang kaunting instructions kasi lumalaban ‘yung Adamson — nothing to lose na sila. So hindi puwedeng mag-relax kami,” said La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo.

La Salle are set to face the Ateneo Lady Eagles for the first seed on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Jema Galanza managed 12 points, while Bernadette Flora had five. The Lady Falcons surrendered 28 errors and had no service aces.

Adamson have dropped their 20th match in a row, dating back to last season. The Lady Falcons end Season 79 on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre against the University of the East Lady Warriors (1-11).
