As expected, the league-leading Adamson University Lady Falcons demolished the De La Salle University Lady Batters, taking a 9-1 abbreviated fifth inning win, Saturday morning at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in Manila. What wasn’t expected though was who led t defending champions.

Fourth-year Lady Falcon Delyrose Covarrubias led Adamson’s bomb squad, going 2-of-3 at bat that resulted to two runs and three RBIs. Angelie Ursabia went 2-of-3 at bat with a run and two RBIs.

The Lady Falcons did not waste any time, driving in three runs in the second and third innings highlighted by triples from Covarrubias and Ursabia.

“Sabi ko lang sa mga bata, basta wag lang sila mag-relax and continue kung ano yung magandang ginagawa nila. Kaso naaksidente pa yung isa kong player, sana hindi malala at makalaro pa,” said multi-time champion mentor Ana Santiago.

During their third inning flurry, first basewoman Florable Pabiana figured in a collision, hurting her right knee. She remains day-to-day as of publishing.

Adamson was able to seal the game with three more runs in the fourth inning while Arlyn Bautista and the Adamson fielders held the Lady Batters scoreless in the final inning.

All the while though, lead-off batter Lorna Adorable, Riezel Calumbres, and Gelyn Lamata sat out the fourth inning due to the lack of desire according to Santiago.

“Naiinis na nga ako kasi walang ipinapalo. Sakaling baka magising at hoping ako na magising sila, mas lalo ng malapit na yung importante sa amin,” lamented Santiago as the three went a combined 1-of-7 at bat.
