Nicole Tiamzon cleared to play on Sunday

Wednesday was not the UP Lady Maroons’ day.

During their four-set loss to the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, graduating open hitter Nicole Tiamzon suffered a right ankle sprain in the second set that kept her playing the rest of the match. It was bad enough that she had to be stretchered into their dugout.

It turns out that Tiamzon is fine. She even managed to get back on both feet before the match ended. According to University of the Philippines team manager Cecile Ronquillo, Tiamzon will be available for their last first round match on Sunday against the National University Lady Bulldogs.

“There’s nothing to be worried about. She wants everyone to know that she’s fine and she can play on Sunday,” Ronquillo told CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk earlier tonight.

With a 4-2 record, UP can keep pace with a heated chase for a Final Four chase with a win on Sunday against the slumping NU Lady Bulldogs.
