Bolick leads Cignal-San Beda’s rout of Batangas

The Cignal-San Beda College HD Hawkeyes stamped its class anew, routing Team Batangas, 95-68, for its third straight victory, Monday afternoon at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Robert Bolick and Byron Villarias tore the Batanguenos to shreds in the second quarter, teaming up for 16 of the Hawkeyes’ 31 points in the frame to pull away at halftime, 56-34. They would further extend the lead to as much as 27, 71-44.

Cignal is now on a three-way logjam at second place with Tanduay and Cafe France, all carrying identical 3-1 records.

Bolick topped the Hawkeyes with 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Villarias got 13 markers on a 3-of-6 clip from threes.

Jason Perkins also tallied a near double-double of 11 points and nine boards, while Alfred Batino got 10 markers.

Coach Boyet Fernandez, though, kept his focus on the team’s continued development, saying, “This is a team in progress. We still have to develop our teamwork because we only started a month ago.”

Still, he’s happy that he’s seeing positive signs for his squad four games into the tournament.

“Credit to my boys because they played well today. This will only help us improve our teamwork as we play more stronger teams in the future,” he said.

The Hawkeyes shot a blistering 46 percent from the field, including 13-for-30 from downtown. Moreover, Cignal outrebounded Batangas, 51-40.

Cedrick Ablaza topped Batangas (1-4) with 16 points and five rebounds, while Cedric de Joya got 12 markers.

Cignal-San Beda will look to sustain momentum this Thursday, February 16, as they face Blustar at 5:00 PM still at Ynares Arena. Batangas, meanwhile, will face Wangs Basketball next Tuesday, February 21, 3:00 PM at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao
