Rain or Shine allows Chris Tiu, Beau Belga to join Mighty Sports for Dubai campaign

Rain or Shine give Mighty Sports a helping hand

After their team had been eliminated by the San Miguel Beermen during the quarterfinals of the Philippine Cup last Sunday, Chris Tiu and Beau Belga will get a chance to vent their frustration against the best basketball clubs in the Middle East, as the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters have allowed the two to join Mighty Sports in their campaign in the 2017 Dubai International Basketball Tournament.

“We are very grateful to Rain or Shine for helping us out,” Mighty Sports head coach Charles Tiu told Tiebreaker Times.

“We are thankful that boss Raymond [Yu] and coach Caloy [Garcia] allowed the players to join us.”

Belga played all 13 games for Rain or Shine this conference, posting norms of 7.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assist last conference. Tiu, on the other hand, played in just seven games during the All-Filipino Cup campaign, averaging 7.4 points — including 1.3 triples — to go along with 1.9 assists in 17.4 minutes.

The addition of the two veterans is a welcome one for Mighty Sports.

“I’m definitely happy. Beau can play the power forward spot and allows me to slide down my imports to the wings,” the younger Tiu added about the team that has tapped the services of naturalized Filipino Marcus Douthit, Justin Brownlee, and Hasheem Thabeet.

“He gives us some toughness too.”

Chris Tiu, the older brother of Charles, will add versatility to the team according to the young mentor.

“Chris is a smart player who shoots the ball well. He won’t make a lot of mistakes either. He will be a solid addition at the point guard spot,” the 27-year-old mentor shared.

“Obviously, I’m excited to coach him again and be on the same side.”

Tiu and Belga join Kiefer Ravena, Jeron Teng, Jett Manuel, Gary David, TY Tang, Willie Miller, and Jerwin Gaco. The tournament is scheduled to be from February 18 to 25 at the Al Ahli Club in Dubai, UAE.
