Alyssa Valdez chases the dream
Local volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez will finally get her shot at an international league as the three-time UAAP MVP will play for 3BB Nokornonnt, a club that participates in the Thailand League.
A highly-placed source from Thailand, who requested anonymity, told Tiebreaker Times that Valdez will start playing for the team next year when the league resumes.
The three-time Shakey’s V-League MVP had gone to Thailand with the current roster of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles as they held a training camp for their upcoming UAAP campaign which begins on February.
Valdez, in previous interviews, has indicated her desire to play overseas and test her mettle.
In a statement, Valdez declined to confirm if she will be playing immediately on January but said that playing in Thailand is part of her plan.
“Thailand is a definite possibility for 2017 and we hope to finalize details by early next year,” said the Phenom.
“But for now, I’m just focusing first on spending the holidays with my family and loved ones. Hoping for all the best for the coming year.”
Valdez last played for the Bureau of Customs Transformers, leading the newly-formed club to the SVL Reinforced Conference Finals. After that campaign, the proud Batangueña hinted at an eventful 2017 but chose to keep the details to herself for the meantime.
If Valdez does end up playing in for 3BB, she joins her former BOC teammates Som Kuthaisong and Nic Jaisaen, PSL-F2 Logistics’ setter for the FIVB Women’s CWC Tichaya Boonlert, and Thai national team opposite hitter Kokram Pimpichaya. The team is currently 3-2 in their current campaign.
3BB Nokornonnt play their first game of 2017 on January 7 against King-Bangkok.
