The Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates made short work of the Mapua Institute of Technology Lady Cardinals in straight sets, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12, and clinched its fourth win of the season, Wednesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Team skipper Cherilyn Sindayen led Lyceum with 18 points off 14 attacks, three aces, and a block.
The Pirates outclassed the Cardinals in all scoring skills with 36 spikes as opposed to 20, 3-0 on blocks, and 12-4 on serves.
Mapua kept themselves in the match in the second set with better floor coverage, but they could not sustain the intensity to threaten Lyceum in the following frame.
Sindayen rued their complacency in the middle set. She said, “Nagpepetiks po eh. Siguro dapat laruin lang namin yung laro namin.”
Angelie Manungdayao and Diane Latayan topbilled the Cardinals with five points each.
With tougher games ahead, the Lyceum skipper shared, “Actually, wala po kaming break. Siguro po, 24, 25, pero 26 balik po agad kasi kailangan po naming mag-double time, sabi ni coach.”
The Lady Pirates (4-1) will try to solidify their semis bid when the winless EAC Lady Generals (0-6) on January 4. Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals (0-6) will take on the Letran Lady Knights (0-5) on the following day.
