NU unbeaten, scores first match-sweep of the day against AdU

In another dominant outing by the still invincible team from Jhocson, the Bulldogs led by former season 75 MVP Joper Escueta pounded the shuttlers from Adamson in all 5 matches, not giving up even a single game. National University stays in first place by virtue of them winning more matches compared to the Green Shuttlers with 18 wins and just 2 losses.

 

Men’s Singles Match 1: Philip Joper Escueta (NU) def. Joshua Antonio (AdU); 2:0

NU 1 – 0 AdU

 

Joper Escueta hardly broke a sweat in the opening match of the NU-AdU series against Joshua Antonio. Joper Escueta would only give-up 18 total points in the two games in this match. Most of his opponent’s points came from his return errors. The former Most Valuable Player would take both sets 21-8 and 21-10.

Men’s Singles Match 2: Roseleenard Pedrosa (NU) def. Jerome Pechera (AdU); 2:0

NU 2 – 0 AdU

 

In another sweep, uber-athletic Roseleenard Pedrosa trashed his opponent Jerome Pechera in two games. The 1st game in the match saw Pedrosa pressure Pechera with sharp returns and low drops to win 21-10. The 2nd game was a whole different match. Pechera led the early part of the 2nd game 7-3 with a majority of return errors by Pechera. Pechera would then storm back with a series of smashes and drops to take the led 9-8. No momentum shift occurred between the two shuttlers with the score being tied 8 times. With the score tied at 15, Pechera would make a rally scoring 6 of the next 7 points to go up 20-16. With Pechera at match point, Roseleenard Pedrosa would storm with a 6 point rally to steal the match from Pechera 22-20.

The highly-ranked team of Peter Magnaye and Joper Escueta (ranked 10th in the Men’s Doubles’ Division) would still go unbeaten in the tournament with a pounding of the tandem of Keith Reyes and EJ Villoria. The tandem of Magnaye and Escueta would take both sets 21-9 and 21-10 to secure another National University series win.

The athletic tandem of Alvin Morada and Roseleeenard Pedrosa would strike again as the team from Jhocson beat the pairing of Gerloth Delizo and Jerome Pechera in straight sets. The final tally for both games are 21-13 and 21-11.

Alvin Morada, playing in his 2nd straight game, made sure to score the match-sweep for the National University Bulldogs with his win over Adamson’s EJ Villoria. Morada would take both sets with scores of 21-17 in the 1st and 21-12 in the 2nd.
