Petron charges to second win, sweeps F2 Logistics

The Petron Tri-Activ Spikers put on another dominant performance, sweeping All-Filipino Conference champs F2 Logistics Cargo Movers 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 for their second straight Philippine Superliga Grand Prix win at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Petron’s American import Stephanie Niemer was unstoppable, pouring in 21 points off 15 attacks, four aces, and two blocks. Opposite hitter Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added nine markers for the undefeated Tri-Activ Spikers.

The match came down to service reception. F2’s lack of ball control at crucial stages of the match spelled their doom. Petron’s Niemar slapped back-to-back aces on the Cargo Movers to bring Petron to a 22-18 lead in the second frame which lasted until the end of the set. Team captain Ces Molina then camped out at the service line in the third set to boost Petron to an insurmountable 20-14 lead.

Petron ended the match with a 14-2 advantage in aces.

“Siyempre, very happy ako sa nilalaro namin may macocontribute pa siguro ‘yung iba naming players, kailangan pa namin mag-gel. Mabuti na ‘rin siguro na may break na darating para makapag-training pa kami,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

No Cargo Mover managed to score in double-digits with import Sydnet Kemper tallying nine points, while team captain Cha Cruz added eight.

Petron (2-0) take on RC-Cola Army (0-0) while F2 (0-2) seek their first win against the Cignal HD Spikers (0-0) on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
