Perlas Pilipinas whips Singapore in SEABA opener

Perlas Pilipinas opened their 2016 SEABA Championship for Women campaign on a high note after crushing Singapore, 69-43, in their first assignment, Tuesday afternoon in Malacca, Malaysia.

France Cabinbin paced Perlas Pilipinas and led all scorers with 16 points, while forward Camille Sambile supplied 10 markers in today’ lopsided victory.

The Singaporeans had the upper hand for majority of the opening quarter, keeping Perlas Pilipinas behind in the early part. However, the Filipinas surged back, pulling off a 9-5 scoring spree sparked by guard Allana Lim, midway into the frame, to turn the 13-9 deficit into an 18-all deadlock to end the match’s first ten minutes.

It was the Philippines’ turn in the driver’s seat come the second quarter. Down by just a point, 23-22, midway, Perlas Pilipinas notched it up on both ends, cruising to an 11-1 run to post the game’s first double-digit lead, 34-23, in the 3:48 mark. From there, Perlas never looked back, keeping Singapore at bay to close the first half ahead, 46-27.

The Singaporeans had a poor showing on both ends of the floor in the third canto, which allowed Perlas Pilipinas to run and stretch their lead to as much as twenty, 54-34, with 3:18 on the clock. And with baskets courtesy of Lim and Cabinbin, the Philippines wrapped up the third quarter with a commanding 22-point advantage, 58-36.

It was all Perlas Pilipinas in the final quarter as Singapore could not regain their bearings, especially on offense. The Singaporeans only scored seven in the whole frame, helping Philippines to open the SEABA tourney on a positive note with a resounding 26-point, 69-43 victory.
