The Tanduay Rhum Masters blasted the Topstar-ZC Mindanao Aguilas in a 55-point rout, 133-78, Tuesday in the 2016 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Hitting their shots in the second quarter, the Rhum Masters sustained that groove in the second half to record the most points in D-League history, 133, topping NLEX’s previous record of 125 set in January 30, 2014, against the Zambales M-Builders.
Reden Celda led the charge with 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists, kickstarting the pull-away with an 11-0 start.
Kim Lo made the most of the extended garbage time, notching a double-double with 17 markers and 13 rebounds, while Gelo Alolino registered 17 points and six assists.
Five other Tanduay players scored in double digits, as all 13 players, save for Rudy Lingganay, made a field goal in the victory.
“Actually di ako satisfied sa first half namin because we allowed them to score 48 points. Di sa minamaliit ko ang Mindanao, but they’re not one of the big boys kaya pinagalitan ko sila at halftime and gave them a tongue-lashing,” said Tanduay head coach Lawrence Chongson.
“I challenged them to hold our opponents to 30 points in the second half and nag-respond naman sila, especially our shock troopers.”
Tanduay also remained in the running for the top two spots with their 6-3 slate, bouncing back from their 108-95 defeat to Phoenix last Tuesday.
JR Cawaling led the cellar dwelling Mindanao (0-8) with 21 points, while Dexter Garcia got 15.
