Former Lyceum FSA Nguidjol training with Duncan, Spurs

Former Lyceum of the Philippines University foreign student-athlete Victor Nguidjol was drafted by San Antonio Spurs-affiliate Austin Spurs last November 1, 2015 (Philippine time) in the NBA D-League draft.

The 21 year old Cameroonian only played in four games for Austin going scoreless in all four of his outings. However, the San Antonio Spurs have high hopes for him according to his former coach Topex Robinson.

“He got back last week but I think the Spurs will pick him in the draft for them to build on the D-League,” Robinson disclosed. “Kasi tapos na ata yung contract niya so they’re going to pick him in this upcoming draft for the Spurs.”

Nguidjol, who averaged 11.06 points, 8.65 rebounds, and 1.65 blocks per game in his only year with Lyceum, is said to be training with the San Antonio Spurs, more specifically Tim Duncan. “Based on what he said, Duncan’s been working on him also because they want him,” the Lyceum coach added.NCAA-91-SSCR-vs.-UPHSD-Nguidjol-7254 Former Lyceum FSA Nguidjol training with Duncan, Spurs Basketball LPU NCAA News - philippine sports news

Standing at 6’10, Nguidjol has diversified his game and is now playing the shooting guard and small forward positions in the States. “He is long e then he plays the two and the three. That’s what he said, he is working with the regular team.”

Even in leaving Lyceum without prior notice, the officials of the 63 year old institution are proud of what the Cameroonian had accomplished much to the surprise of Nguidjol. “When he came back here he was so happy because he thought (otherwise) since he suddenly left us,” Robinson shared. “LPU is about developing players and we are going to benefit from it more than anyone else.”

And no one was more happy for him than his former mentor. “The moment I saw him, I was surprised kasi I told him ‘I don’t want you here. I want you back in the States and the NBA.’ Whatever he has accomplished, we are proud of it,” he closed.
