Giemel Magramo (14-0-11KO) had fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a champion last night with a sixth round stoppage win over the very game Jeny Boy Boca (10-2-1KO) in “Boxing Kontra Droga” at The Flash Grand Ballroom, Elorde Sports Complex, Parañaque City.
The 21-year old opened the bout with a flurry of punches, leaving no room for the General Santos City-based boxer to establish his offense in the first two rounds. Boca, however, was able to get things going when he started to land his punches in the third round and was able to get into Magramo’s face at the bell as both men had to be separated.
Both pugilists continued where they left off in the later rounds, hitting each other with lightning-fast punches. until Magramo landed a clean left body shot that stunned Boca momentarily from his attacks. Sensing opportunity to end the fight, the young “Pistolero” unleashed a barrage of strikes that forced veteran referee Bruce McTarvish to end the fight at the two minute mark of the sixth round to start the celebration.
“Tuwang-tuwa ako kasi nakamit ko na yung pinapangarap ko eh. Pangarap ko talga na mag champion ng international,” said the jubilant Magramo (15-0) told Tiebreaker Times right after the biggest win of his young career. “Sigurado nito, makakapasok na ako sa world ratings kaya masayang masaya ako. Maiaahon ko na ang pamilya ko sa hirap.”
“Sobrang saya ko ngayon kasi proud na proud yung mga tao eh, lalo na nung nanalo ako,” added Magramo, who has fought his way up from the amateurs to eventually fight for the title.
His father and coach, Melvin Magramo, is proud on his son’s recent achievement. “Yan pa naman ang hinihintay namin (na manalo so Giemel) kaya tuwang-tuwa ako. Hindi ko mabatid ang kasiyahan na naramdaman ko!,” declared the elder Magramo, who has won various titles and fought then 19-year old Manny Pacquiao during his boxing career.
In the supporting main event, brothers Juan Martin and Juan Miguel Elorde renewed their mastery over their Indonesian finishes for the second event in a row.
The younger “Mig” (19-1) went on a knockdown spree after sending Rasmanudin (19-12-3) multiple times throughout their scheduled ten-round fight until the latter couldn’t continue after getting caught with a body shot in the fourth round.
On the other hand, “Bai” (18-1-1) kept his composure against the sturdy yet enigmatic Master Suro (3-3-2) to go out with a 99-91, 100-90, 100-90 unanimous decision victory.
