The Meralco Bolts and Globalport Batang Pier secured wins in contrasting styles, in the PBA Dickies 3-on-3 women’s basketball tournament Tuesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Bolts scored an easy victory over the winless Barako Bull, 15-6. Back-to-back twos by Christine Guevara and Vea Di-Anne Cuevas closed out the match for Meralco, who improved to 1-2 in Group A. The Energy dropped to 0-2.
The Batang Pier, meanwhile, fended off a challenge from the Enforcers before eking out a 10-9 win to stay in the hunt for a semi-finals spot.
Globalport got off to a hot start, draining three twos — one each from Vanessa Jane Santos, Julie Pearl Gula, and Jasmine Tiu-Malto — to erect a 7-2 lead.
But Giselle Galisim replied with two straight long range baskets of her own to pull Mahindra to 6-7. Later, Tiu-Malto knocked down her second two of the night, to make it 9-6, but Galisim and Loraine Lim scored the next three points to tie the count at 9 apiece.
Nelia Sinsioco made the game-winning basket under the final minute to push Globalport ahead, 10-9, as Mahindra ran out of time in the end.
Globalport rose to 1-1 while Mahindra sank to 0-3 in Group B of the team standings.
