Vega says Adamson needs to double effort to make Final Four

Adamson University ended an eight-game losing skid — the longest in the tournament — with a hard-fought win over University of Santo Tomas, 75-71, to stay alive in the hunt for a Final Four spot.

Though on the brink of elimination, the Lady Falcons’ head coach Emelia Vega is still looking at a possible Final Four stint, though she knows her team should put in an even better performance the next time.

“Yung pinakita namin dito, siguro double the effort pa. Sinabi ko sa players, one at a time tayo. Kailangan nating manalo (sa last two),” she said.

Adamson were off to a promising start in the UAAP women’s basketball tournament, winning their first three games. Afterwards, the Lady Falcons seemed to flounder and lost eight in a row.

“Sobrang sama talaga ng eight na sunod na talo. Binalik namin yung depensa ngayon from start to finish kaya kami nanalo,” Vega said, after Adamson won over UST.

“Admittedly naman yung mga bata, after the first three wins, nagrelax sila. Nakita rin naman namin yun. Siguro natauhan na sila. Pero win or lose, we are taking it one game at a time lang.”

For the last two games, Vega hopes Adamson can get the job done as an entire unit and not just rely on contributions from its key players.

“Kailangan naming mag-adjust. Kailangan makita nila na basketball is not about one player but about the team.”
