Already having been unable to cope with the opposition in the first round, things would only get worse for the Adamson University Soaring Falcons and Lady Falcons in the second round of the UAAP Table Tennis Championship held at Ninoy Aquino stadium. Coming in with poor standings, the Falcons were keen to notch a couple more victories to improve their ranking. Sadly, things didn’t go their way, as the second round holding only more anguish.
Soaring Falcons
With a 3-4 record from the first round, the Soaring Falcons were more than eager to rise above their opponents in the early hours of the second round. Unfortunately their wings were clipped in their first challenge by the University of the East Red Warriors, who came out on top after a gritty 2-3 battle. The Falcons would continue faltering in flight as the University of Santo Tomas were quick to tear them apart in their second match, 0-3. Adamson got a chance to spread their wings against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Paddlers, but would be permanently grounded by their defeat against NU, 2-3, which capped of the first day of the second round.
The Falcons would be destroyed in the second day of the second round through the combined efforts of the Far Eastern University, De La Salle University, and University of the Philippines, who respectively delivered beatdowns that ended 1-3, 0-3, and 0-3 to deny the Falcons any more room to soar.
Lady Falcons
Returning to the battle in the second round, the Lady Falcons carried over only a single victory. Despite this, they were eager to climb the rankings, but fell short of the task. Clipped by the same team that denied their men’s counterpart an opening win, the UE Lady Warriors were quick to attack as they delivered a 0-3 sweep. The UST Lady Paddlers delivered a similar defeat. Things cleared up to give the Lady Falcons some success against the NU Lady Bulldogs; led by Mikaela Ricanor, Lezty Jarito, and Maryvette Obeles, the Lady Falcons taste their final victory for the season. They were immediately brought back to earth by the FEU Lady Tamaraws, who delivered a 0-3 defeat finishing blow.
The Lady Falcons would also be completely overwhelmed in the second day of the second round. A well-placed shot by the DLSU Lady Paddlers opened their final day in the tournament with a 0-3 defeat. The UP Lady Maroons would continue the pattern with a 2-3 win, and the ADMU Lady Paddlers would also triumph 1-3.
With a standing of 4-10 for the men’s team and 2-12 for the women’s, the Adamson Falcons are effectively grounded to 7th place for the UAAP Season 78 Table Tennis ChampionshipÂ
