Message sent: Lady Spikers waylay Lady Falcons en route to Ateneo showdown

The De La Salle Lady Spikers masterfully destroyed the Adamson Lady Falcons in a lopsided sweep, 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 at the San Juan Arena.

The Lady Spikers ran on all cylinders right from the first point, wrecking any Adamson attempt at contending for a set. La Salle came away with decisive advantages in spikes (42-23), blocks (9-4), aces (7-2), and even in digs (31-25), a signature stat for the Lady Falcons.

La Salle’s Ara Galang gave the Adamson defense fits and led all scorers with 20 points off 18 attacks. Utility spiker Desiree Cheng contributed 13 points off of nine attacks, two aces and two blocks.

Adamson struggled to muster any offense as La Salle’s blockers controlled them the entire match. AdU team captain Faye Guevara went scoreless for the match while Jema Galanza was limited to five points. Mylene Paat scrapped up 11 points while Amanda Villanueva managed only seven.

The emphatic win comes days before the Lady Spikers’ showdown with the Ateneo Lady Eagles which will decide the fate of the Final Four.

“Sabi ko nga sa kanila [Lady Spikers] kailangan maganda iyung ilalaro natin today para may paghuhugutan tayo sa Wednesday. May mga napansin naman na ako sa laro nila [Ateneo] kanina na pwede namin i-take advantage,” said La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus.

The Wednesday matchup will feature an Ateneo team with a malady of injuries while La Salle seems to be peaking at the perfect time. If La Salle wins the match, the Final Four will be in a traditional setup while if Ateneo wins, the Final Four will be remodeled into a step ladder format with Ateneo going straight to the Finals with a thrice-to-beat advantage.

With the loss, Adamson drops to fourth, tied with the Lady Maroons with a 5-7 record. Adamson’s next matchup is against the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday at the MoA Arena.
