Regardless of the delay caused by the exciting NU-UST tie before them, the ADMU Lady Tennisters and UP Lady Maroons wasted no time in outpowering the other as both teams were out to cut their losing streak before the start of the second round. Luck seemed to have favoured the Lady Maroons as they edged out their Atenean counterparts in a 3-2 tie.
Stuck playing in only one court due to the long final match between NU and UST, UP started the tit-for-tat that eventually lasted until the end as both squads battled hard. Starting the match between UP and ADMU was Nicole Eugenio and Jessica Lagman respectively. UPâs Eugenio proved to be the better of the two as she delivered the first win for her squad by defeating ADMUâs Lagman in a one-sided 6-1, 6-0. Retaliating after the loss of their comrade was the duo of Jana Hernandez and Shanin Olivarez who defeated UPâs Moira Velicario and Alexis Borela 6-1, 6-3.
The give-and-take scenario ended at the hands of UPâs Monica Cortez who defeated ADMUâs Sam Martin 6-0, 6-3. Her win was followed by the victory of her teammates Madelene Ramos and Sarah Lim, who overcame ADMUâs Jana Exconde and Naomi Riskin in a one-sided 6-0, 6-0 match. ADMU eventually delivered a successful retaliation by defeating UPâs CJ Valdez courtesy of Khrizelle Sampaton, 6-2, 6-2 but it was far too late to change the outcome.
The ADMU Lady Tennisters’ loss leaves them in last place while the Lady Maroons sit behind DLSU in fourth.
