Jason Brickman, Mono survive Joshua Munzon’s 43

Playing in their final game of the elimination round, the Mono Vampire Basketball Club needed to overcome a career-game by Filipino-American Joshua Munzon, taking a 108-102 win, Wednesday evening at the MABA Stadium in Malaysia.

Filipino-American Jason Brickman orchestrated Mono’s attack with 16 assists to go along with six points, six rebounds, and four steals. Compatriot Paul Zamar had 22 markers as well.

Though the Westsports Malaysia Dragons were just playing for pride, Joshua Munzon continued to play his heart out, amassing 43 points on 14-of-22 shooting while grabbing eight boards and dishing out five dimes.

Down by as much as 14 points, Munzon provided the spark for Westsports’ late-game comeback attempt. Fellow Fil-Am Jawhar Purdy joined in the fray while a three-pointer by Chris Eversley sliced the lead to just a solitary point, 98-99, with 2:44 left.

Sam Deguara and Mike Singletary though answered right back while free throws from Zamar and Brickman sealed the deal.

Purdy played all 40 minutes in the game, finishing with nine points.

Deguara had 29 points on 13-of-17 shooting and 16 rebounds while Singletary had 24 points for Mono.

Supporting Munzon was Eversley who had 34 points and 12 rebounds.

With the win, Mono Vampire ends the regular season with a 14-6 slate. They will await the results of the final games of Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team, Chon Son Kung Fu, and San Miguel Alab Pilipinas before knowing their position heading into the Playoffs.
