Lady Spikers dispose Lady Maroons for solo first

Defending champions De La Salle University Lady Spikers made quick work of the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in straight sets, 25-15, 25-19, 25-19, Wednesday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

This win kept La Salle’s second round campaign perfect and they also now enjoy the solo first spot in the standings.

“Magandang sign sa team kasi papatapos yung first round, or start ng second round, maganda yung kinikilos ng team so magandang sign para sa team. Isa sa mga target namin ay mag 1 or 2. Medyo maganda ang position namin ngayon so hopefully magtuloy-tuloy,” coach Ramil De Jesus said.

With 16 attacks and five service aces, the Lady Spikers dominated and immediately secured the first set, 25-15, as the Lady Maroons once again struggled with reception.

Early in the second set, the Lady Maroons kept up with La Salle and even got a taste of the lead 10-9. However, the Lady Spikers took the drivers’ seat through the collaborative efforts of Aduke Ogunsanya, Desiree Cheng, and Kiana Dy. With a quick attack and a service ace, Ogunsanya sealed the second set, 25-19.

Come the third set, UP enjoyed an early lead 10-6 but their errors proved to be costly again. La Salle took advantage through their blocks and kills. Just like the second set, Ogunsanya hit the match point, 25-19.

“Naging organized ang blocking namin and ang floor defense medyo nag-work. At the same time maganda ang naging services ng team,” De Jesus expounded.

Cheng and Dy had 14 points each as Tin Tiamzon supported with 9 points.
