Greg Slaughter doubtful for quarters due to sprained ankle

Greg Slaughter just couldn’t catch a break

Slaughter’s status in the 2018 Philippine Cup Quarterfinals appears to be in tatters as the towering slotman himself confirmed that he had incurred a sprained ankle during one of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s practices.

The seven-foot behemoth was reduced to a spectator Friday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, during the Barangay’s clash with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters where they reigned victorious in three overtime periods, 104-100.

“We were doing practice and it was literally the last rep of the drill, and I just went up for a little hook shot in the paint and came down on someone’s foot and sprained it,” shared Slaughter moments after the match.

Slaughter just couldn’t slap the injury bug away from him, it seems. Early in this season’s All-Filipino conference, the product of Ateneo de Manila sustained a strained hamstring, forcing him to sit out for three games.

Now, it looks like the Cebuano cager will have to sit out yet another string of matches for the fifth-ranked Barangay. He however made it clear that he’s doing all the best that he can so he can recover as soon as possible.

“Sprains like these are for a few weeks but I’m trying to do everything I can to get back in this quarterfinals hopefully,” said Slaughter. ‘If not, God willing we make it out (semis) and hopefully I can join them as soon as I can.”

And another thing that Slaughter hopes is for him to maintain his condition even if he’s in pain.

“It’s still painful to walk so that’s just my main goal: try to keep the conditioning I have even though I have this bummed ankle,” he said.
