Zark’s-Lyceum head coach Topex Robinson is taking all the blame for the Jawbreakers’ recent misfortunes following their second straight defeat, Tuesday night at the hands of Che’lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian, 97-88.
This has been the first time Lyceum has lost two straight matches since the NCAA Season 93 Finals last year. The Jawbreakers, as a result, have gone down to 4-3 in the standings of the 2018 D-League Aspirants’ Cup.
“I guess I’ve been making mistakes along the way about how we’ve been playing,” the youthful bench strategist thought.
“It’s my mistake — I did some wrong adjustments and preparations and I take full responsibility of it.”
The Jawbreakers can actually chalk up this skid to the absences of foreign center Mike Nzesseu and MJ Ayaay due to injuries — even Robinson admits that not having them is a huge blow. But the mentor doesn’t want to make any excuses.
“Ayaay is out, Mike is out, so napakalaking bagay nila sa’min. But again, it’s not an excuse for us para bumaba ang laro,” he said. “We have to find ways to win, rather than finding somebody who’s not there.”
And speaking of finding ways to win, Robinson trusts his wards that they will be able to recover. They have a chance to do so against a dangerous Gamboa Coffee-St. Clare on March 13, and he hopes he’ll have a complete squad that time.
“These guys are winners and we’ll find a way to get on the winning track,” he said. “We’ll have two weeks off, so by that time nakarecover na si Mike, si Ayaay, so we’ll have a more or less a complete lineup by that time.
“So hopefully we can get our bearings back.”
