Cocolife survives Gyselle Silva’s fiery debut, nabs first win

The Cocolife Asset Managers absorbed everything thrown at them by the Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters and their Cuban import Gyselle Silva threw and came away with their first win of the 2018 Chooks-to-Go/Philippine Superliga Grand Prix, 25-20, 25-22, 25-13, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The debuting Giga Hitters had Silva power in 33 points, the most any player has scored in three sets in the PSL. Cocolife, however, displayed their vaunted depth and kept a tidy tally of errors.

The Asset Managers pulled 11 points from Serbian Sara Klisura, who holds the PSL record for most in a game, and received 28 points off Smart’s errors.

“We just tried to play as a team and stick to our gameplan,” said Cocolife captain Klisura.

“They had a great player and it was difficult for us to keep with her. Luckily, me and my teammates settled down to get the win,” she added.

The Asset Managers pulled away early in the first set, before fending off the Giga Hitters midway through the second frame. Cocolife sealed the win after starting the third set on a 16-6 blitz.

The Asset Managers (1-2) try to even their record on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre when they face the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors (1-1). Smart (0-1) will aim for their first win against the Petron Blaze Spikers (2-0), also on Thursday.
