Paul Zamar, Mono survive shootout against Mikey Williams, Saigon

In an old-fashioned run-and-gun game, Paul Zamar, Jason Brickman, and the fourth-running Mono Vampire outgunned Mikey Williams and the Saigon Heat late to take a 118-113 win, Wednesday evening in Stadium 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Filipino export Zamar finished the game with 25 markers on 10-of-15 shooting, while Brickman glued things together with nine assists to go along with seven points, five rebounds, and two steals.

No lead was safe for both squads even if Mono led by as much as nine points, 101-92, with 6:25 left in the game.

A three-pointer by Williams capped a 14-6 Saigon rally, to cut the lead to just a solitary point with 3:08 left. Brickman and Zamar then connived to stop the bleeding with back-to-back layups.

Saigon went cold from the field afterwards, only cutting the lead to as low as three points, as Mono were able to answer everything Saigon threw at them.

Williams, a Filipino-American floor general, had 24 points, eight assists, and four steals in the losing effort.

Mono’s World Imports Mike Singletary and Samuel Deguara were able to impose their might in the contest. Singletary played all 40 minutes, tallying 35 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists, while Deguara had 33 points on 14-of-15 shooting and 14 rebounds. Local Chitchai Ananti added 11 markers off the bench.

Maxie Esho had a game-high 38 points and 17 rebounds for Saigon, while Moses Morgan and Akeem Scott had 19 and 18 points respectively.

With the win, Mono are now just half-a-game behind San Miguel Alab Pilipinas with a 10-5 slate. Saigon dropped to 6-7, a full game behind the fifth-running Singapore Slingers.
