Charles Tiu allays fears of possible Jerwin Gaco injury

There was a scary moment during the closing minutes of the Go for Gold Scratchers’ game against the Akari-Adamson University Soaring Falcons.

Jerwin Gaco, a 37-year-old veteran, was seen on the ground limping in pain with 1:35 left in the game, after colliding with Adamson’s foreign student-athlete Papi Sarr underneath the rim. Gaco was able to walk back to the bench.

But Scratchers head coach Charles Tiu assured that Gaco is well after hurting his right thigh.

“He should be back next game. Nothing serious,” confirmed Tiu after the match, which they lost, 92-98.

The 6-foot-4 bruiser is averaging 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds for Go for Gold.

Tiu’s confirmation is more than enough to calm fears that Go for Gold will lose another important player. The Scratchers are currently missing the services of point guard Kent Salado after re-injuring his MCL in his right knee.

The Arellano Chief suffered the conference-ending injury last January 23, during their 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup opener against the Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare Coffee Lovers, which they won, 75-68.

“Oo nga eh. Pero eto, ‘di naman. Buti naman.”
