The Arellano University Chiefs are back on track
The Chiefs bounced back big after that loss to the Perpetual Altas, as they demolished the San Beda College Red Spikers, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16, Friday morning at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
John Cabillan paced the Chiefs with 17 points off 16 attacks and a block. Kevin Liberato also figured this time after a dismal game against the Altas, finishing with nine markers.
The margin in the scoring skills after the hour-long contest might not have been huge — as Arellano had 38-35 lead on attacks and 6-2 on serves — but it was how they capitalized on San Beda’s lackluster defense and conversion that prevailed. Moreover, the 27 errors from the Red Spikers sealed their doom.
After that game against Perpetual, head coach Sherwin Meneses asked for intensity from his boys, and this win was something he was proud of.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, ‘Yung good team nakaka-bounce back agad. Hindi ‘yung nagtutuloy yung pagkatalo. Ganito ‘yung gusto ng team, so resulta, panalo,” he said.
Mark Enciso and Jomaru Amagan registered 10 points each to carry San Beda.
The Chiefs (6-1) will try to seal a semifinals slot when they take on the College of Saint Benilde (5-1) on Monday. The Red Spikers (5-2) will face the San Sebastian College-Recoletos (2-4) on Sunday.
