UAAP suspends referees of La Salle-Adamson tilt

In a letter sent by UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag to Adamson University’s Fr. Aldin Suan, the league made it known that the Soaring Falcons-De La Salle University Green Archers tilt that occured last Saturday, November 18, is being evaluated. Moreover, all three game officials that called the contest were immediately suspended, with two most likely banned from the league for the rest season.

“First of all, you are not alone. I called for an emergency meeting the very next day to address the seeming public outrage over the said game,” read the letter penned by Saguisag dated November 20, 2017. “Invited in the said meeting were Mr. Mark Molina in his capacity as Host/Tournament Director and Ms. Erika Dy of Ateneo to send a message to the referees that much is at stake.

“While we are still in the process of evaluating the whole game together with the statistics, the officials that worked your game were immediately suspended with two strongly recommended for being banned for the rest of the season, if only to preserve public confidence in our league.”

This comes after Adamson, through Fr. Suan, filed a protest on Monday morning, asking for a “judicious review” of the game.

The officials of the game were referees Borbe, Alejo, and De Luna.

During the said tilt that resulted in a come-from-behind 82-75 win for La Salle over Adamson, 39 free throws were awarded to the Green Archers compared to just five for the Soaring Falcons.
