Topex Robinson on Chooks/SMART POTW Mike Nzeusseu: ‘He’s really special’

For all the praise CJ Perez has been getting with leading the Lyceum Pirates to an 18-0 record, his supporting cast led by the team’s anchor Mike Nzeusseu have been equally vital for the league leaders. And he proved pivotal during Lyceum’s epic double-overtime win against defending champions San Beda Red Lions.

The Cameroonian student-athlete the game with 27 points, 21 rebounds, and two blocks in 43 minutes of action. Beyond the numbers, he was able to overcome fatigue to lead Lyceum to history.

Because of this performance, Nzeusseu was hailed as the Chooks-to-Go/SMART-NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week spanning October 16 to 22, 2017.

“He’s gonna trust me with whatever, and he’s gonna support me one hundred percent. Sometimes I even look weird and speak words na hindi niya alam, but he’s just supporting me,” head coach Topex Robinson beamed about the sacrifices made by last season’s Rookie of the Year this year. “That’s how really special this guy is.”

For Nzeusseu though, his work will be all worth it once he and the Pirates get to hoist the championship trophy that has eluded the school in the last six years.

“We don’t think about who the MVP is. We just play, and then whoever is MVP is MVP. We don’t care about individual trophies,” said Nzeusseu, “We care about the team, and then the vision which is to inspire others.

“Winning the trophy will be the result of our vision.”

Nzeusseu beat Perez and Rey Nambatac of Letran for the weekly plum given by beat writers from broadsheets, tabloids, and online publications.
