Van Opstal not suspended

After a strict and formal review by UAAP Season 77 Basketball Commissioner Andy Jao, it was concluded by the commissioner’s office that the incident that occurred during the first quarter of the Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University game last July 20, 2014 between Archers’ center Arnold Van Opstal and Eagles’ big man Alfonso Gotladera was purely accidental. However, Van Opstal was given a warning, According to Commissioner Jao, Van Opstal would not intentionally hurt Gotladera since they were classmates for three years.

Hours after the game between arch-rivals Ateneo and De La Salle, a video clip circulated around social media showing a box-out situation between Arnold Van Opstal and Alfonso Gotladera wherein Van Opstal allegedly punched the back of Gotladera’s head. Play continued after the said incident.

In a morning conversation Tiebreaker Times had with the good commissioner on July 22, 2014, Commissioner Jao pointed out that the incident was still under formal review and he will be reaching-out to Arnold Van Opstal within the day to get his side of the story. Commissioner Jao added that a press conference will be held prior to the start of the Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines game with the office’s official decision regarding the incident.
Here’s a video of what occurred during the said play:
