The biggest Muay Thai showdown in the world is finally set to take place this September after a massive announcement from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong this past Sunday.
ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon finally takes on ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek “The Kicking Machine” Kiatmoo9 for the former’s belt at ONE Friday Fights 34 on 22 September inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
This is a fight that has long been a fantasy of fight fans around the world, especially with the dominance that both Rodtang and Superlek have over their respective sports.
Rodtang is currently 14-0 under ONE Championship’s striking rule sets, having ran through everyone he’s faced in Muay Thai and kickboxing since making his promotional debut in 2018.
Superlek, on the other hand, is on a seven bout winning streak in the promotion and is 9-1 overall. He’s been on a warpath as of late, finishing his last three opponents in impressive fashion.
This match was actually supposed to take place early this year, but Rodtang had to pull out because of an injury, adding more excitement to this titanic clash between two of the biggest names in the world of Muay Thai today.
This long-awaited matchup further amplifies ONE’s fiery second half of the year, which will also see Ham Seo Hee and Stamp Fairtex slug it out for the ONE Interim Atomweight World Title at the historic ONE Fight Night 14 on 30 September.
A week later, it will be another all-Thai showdown when the red-hot Tawanchai PK Saenchai defends his ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title against Superbon Singha Mawynn at ONE Fight Night 15 on 6 October.
