Superlek ecstatic with performance against Williams, still eyeing Rodtang

ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek “The Kicking Machine” Kiatmoo9 had to undergo some changes entering ONE Fight Night 8 over the weekend, and the Thai superstar proved exactly why he’s one of the best in the world at what he does.

Days before the fight, his opponent changed from Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon to “Mini T” Danial Williams after the former dropped out due to an injury, but that didn’t affect Superlek’s performance.

Superlek electrified the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Saturday morning as he dropped the Australian with a beautiful high knee before finishing him off for good a few seconds later as a wobbly Williams tried to recover.

For Superlek, he’s satisfied with how the match turned out despite the late change in opponent.

“I am very happy that the fight is over. I am very relieved. I’m really relieved because I can still keep this belt with me. And I really tried my best during the fight,” Superlek said.

“I am happy with my performance because I trained very hard. I trained intensely, and also I prepared a lot of my game plan. I had a lot of determination to win against any opponent. I feel good about my performance today.”

All in all, Superlek is grateful to Williams for having the courage to not only take the challenge on just a few day’s notice but even move up to challenge the flyweight kickboxing king.

“I would like to thank him for accepting this fight at the last minute. I would like to say that he’s a very strong fighter. I respect his heart. I respect his courage. I have nothing to say except thank you very much,” Superlek said.

While he was happy with his performance, Superlek is still looking at Rodtang to make that fight happen. It won’t only be an entertaining bout for the fans, it will also determine who the best striker is in the flyweight division.

“Of course, I think I deserve to challenge him for the title. Rodtang is the number one in Muay Thai, so I would like to try that,” he said.

“I do not have anyone specific in mind to defend my title [against next]. If the next one is Rodtang, who will be challenging me for the belt in kickboxing, I am ready.”
