San Miguel replaces Charles Rhodes with Chris McCullough

Struggling in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the San Miguel Beermen have decided to let go of Charles Rhodes and welcomed new import Chris McCullough.

The development was first reported by Denison Dalupang of Philippine Daily Inquirer, Tuesday.

Rhodes had actually been consistent for the Beermen in the mid-season joust with norms of 26.0 points and 13.7 rebounds, but SMB has only won twice in the seven games they have played.

Rhodes, who helped San Miguel win the Commissioner’s Cup title in 2017 where he also won Best Import honors, played his last game as a Beerman last Sunday in a 132-134 loss to Columbian Dyip.

There, the 34-year-old 26 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists to lead the Beermen, but had nine turnovers.

On the other hand, McCullough is a 24-year-old product of Syracuse, who was the 29th overall pick by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2015 NBA Draft. He played for the Nets until 2017.

The 6-foot-10 forward had also played for the Washington Wizards and had stops in the NBA G-League. McCullough also had a stint in the Chinese Basketball Association last year.

McCullough is fresh from a stint with Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional.

McCullough has already practiced with the Beermen Tuesday afternoon, the report said. He is expected to make his debut on Friday, July 5, when they take on the NLEX Road Warriors.
