AFC: Filipinas’ U17 suffers defeat to North Korea in Women’s Asian Cup

The Filipinas’ Under-17 team suffered their first setback in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup — a 6-0 drubbing by DPR Korea on Thursday at the Bali United Training Center in Indonesia.

Jon Il-Chong scored in the 17th and 27th minutes of the contest for DPR Korea, which now has the solo lead of Group A.

DPR Korea has six points and a plus-13 goal difference on the back of two straight comprehensive victories.

Kang Ryu-Mi put the ball at the back of the net in between Jon Il-Chong’s brace in the 24th minute. Then Pak Il-Sim handed the North Koreans a four-goal cushion in the 31st minute.

Come the second half, DPR Korea wrapped up the rout thanks to goals from Choe Chong-Gum and Son Jo-Ye in the 48th and 90+3 minutes respectively.

The defeat meant that the Girls U-17 slid down to second place in Group A with three points and a minus-1 goal difference.

The other teams in the group, South Korea and Indonesia, will play tonight at 7:00 PM.
