The Filipinas’ Under-17 team suffered their first setback in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup — a 6-0 drubbing by DPR Korea on Thursday at the Bali United Training Center in Indonesia.
Jon Il-Chong scored in the 17th and 27th minutes of the contest for DPR Korea, which now has the solo lead of Group A.
DPR Korea has six points and a plus-13 goal difference on the back of two straight comprehensive victories.
Kang Ryu-Mi put the ball at the back of the net in between Jon Il-Chong’s brace in the 24th minute. Then Pak Il-Sim handed the North Koreans a four-goal cushion in the 31st minute.
Come the second half, DPR Korea wrapped up the rout thanks to goals from Choe Chong-Gum and Son Jo-Ye in the 48th and 90+3 minutes respectively.
The defeat meant that the Girls U-17 slid down to second place in Group A with three points and a minus-1 goal difference.
The other teams in the group, South Korea and Indonesia, will play tonight at 7:00 PM.
Both the Philippines and DPR Korea will return to action this Sunday at 4:00 PM.
DPR Korea will take on host nation Indonesia at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium, while the Philippines will face South Korea at the same venue.
