The Filipinas Under-17 team narrowly missed a ticket to the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup semifinals after being held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea on Sunday at the Bali United Training Center.
Ariana Markey gave the Filipinas hope by putting the ball at the back of the net in the 38th minute off a corner.
However, Beom Ye-Ju’s 74th-minute leveler for the South Koreans relegated the Philippines to elimination at the group stage round.
Sinisa Cohadzic’s squad and South Korea finished Group A with four points each.
However, the latter’s superior goal difference of plus-5 compared to the former’s minus-1 allows it to enter the final four alongside North Korea.
The previous results saw the Philippines defeat host nation Indonesia 6-1 last May 6 and lose 6-0 to North Korea last May 9.
North Korea topped Group A earning nine points on the back of three straight wins – the latest of which was a 9-0 drubbing of Indonesia at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium.
