MPL PH: ONIC inches closer to upper bracket berth with sweep

ONIC Philippines clinched a timely 2-0 sweep against TNC Pro Team, positioning themselves just a win away from securing their place in the upper bracket in the final week of MPL Philippines Season 13 on Friday at the Shooting Gallery Studios.

The Sonics will face defending champion AP.Bren in their final match, where a win will guarantee their spot in the upper bracket.

They could still claim the position if RSG Philippines loses one of their last two matches.

The win was a welcome development for ONIC who lost three of the last four, with two coming in during the implementation of the latest patch.

“Yung mga additional efforts talaga sobrang kailangan kasi nga we struggled after maimplement yung bagong patch. Isa yun sa mga adjustments namin. Back to the basics talaga,” explained ONIC head coach Tony “Ynot” Senedrin on how they bounced back from their struggles during the last two weeks.

“Medyo nag-iba yung tingin ng mga teams sa drafting dahil sa patch so medyo nagstruggle kami dun. I think yan lang talaga. After nito, uwi then pag-usapan how we will tackle tomorrow kasi nga crucial for the top three upper bracket.”

Despite holding a commanding 8-0 lead on the kill score midway through the 14th minute of Game 1, TNC’s Dean “Raizen” Sumagui (Fredrinn) managed to secure the lord.

However, Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez (Kadita) unleashed an accurate Rough Waves to score a double kill and lead a 3-0 response, enabling ONIC to successfully siege the base turret in the midlane.

In Game 2, ONIC executed a three-man ambush at the 21-minute mark, picking off Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales (Chou) followed by an outplay on Robee “Ninjakilla” Pormocille (Lunox).

That finally sealed the victory against the resilient TNC squad and completed the sweep.

TNC (1-12) will finish at the bottom of the standings for the fourth straight season, regardless of the result of their match against Smart Omega on Saturday, May 4.
