Rannie Mercado could have won the finweight match against Alfred Avila. Both successfully converted their kicks into points. However, Avila knocked down Mercado numerous times in the match and Mercado would accidentally go into the restricted area a few times resulting to 7 kyonggos and 3 points for Avila. Avila won the bout 8-5. Diether Baylon then outpointed Juztin Castillo in the flyweight match 5-2 to give NU a 2-nill lead. Josiah Cabanag finally broke into the win column, not only for the team but also for himself, with a 6-5 win over still listless Jefferson Piopongco. Aljon Artonio would give NU a 3-1 lead with a 5-3 lead over Sean Rodriguez. Former FEU-Fern Junior’s standout, now suiting up for UP, Karlos Gaerlan tried to rally the UP side back with an 8-5 win over Dave Cea but it was Arven Alcantara’s short work of disposing Joko Silverio in the 1st round of the welterweight match that sealed the series for the Bulldogs. In a heavyweight match that has no bearing in the team standings but has huge implications in the middleweight-heavyweight division, Guillano de Dios destroyed Erickson Silvestre 19-2, including a huge spinning head kick that was worth 4 points.
