Caisam Yvez “Wolf” Nopueto’s coaching debut in MPL Philippines Season 14 marked a significant moment for him as he embarked on a new journey, transitioning from shoutcaster to coach.
For years, Wolf had dreamed of coaching a team.
He had previously served as Fnatic ONIC PH’s analyst from Seasons 6 to 8, but he eventually had to step away after the league introduced rules that prohibited shoutcasters from taking on coaching roles.
“It was a totally different experience siya, number one. Tapos, yung difference kase [between shoutcasting and coaching], ito ginusto ko ‘to. It’s one of the passions na gusto ko talaga i-pursue eventually. It’s light-hearted and very happy,” Wolf shared in an exclusive interview with Tiebreaker Times.
Despite the challenges that come with coaching, Wolf noted that this type of pressure felt different from what he had encountered before.
“Of course, may pressure pero iba yung pressure sa kanya (coaching). Basta, overall, [It’s a] very happy experience kase ito pinili ko talaga siyang gawin,” he said.
Although his team fell short in their opening match against Smart Omega, Wolf remained satisfied with their performance, seeing the results of their practice and preparation.
Looking ahead to their next match against Fnatic ONIC PH, Wolf emphasized the importance of focusing on their own growth.
He believes they have plenty of time to improve as the season progresses.
“Be focus sa amin muna. We’re a new team. We’re just, technically speaking, one month and one week pa lang kami as a team na buo. So, madami pang kakaining bigas and we’re grinding, sobrang daming oras naming nagga-grind for that,” Wolf concluded.
