With Meralco back in the Finals, Allen Durham looking to settle some unfinished business

Everybody knows the indescribable heartbreak the Meralco Bolts absorbed back in the 2016 Governor’s Cup Finals.

Allen Durham sure knows how tough it was. But now, he and the Bolts have a chance at redemption.

The Bolts will have a chance to redeem themselves after booking a return trip to the Finals of this year’s season-ending conference via a three-game sweep of the Star Hotshots, Thursday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“First of all I just gotta give credit to Star,” said the 29-year-old, who averaged 21.67 points, 22.33 rebounds, and 1.67 blocks in the series. “They came out, they really fought in this game and pushed us to an overtime.

“Luckily, we were able to finish the game strong.”

Now, the Bolts are waiting for the winner of the TNT Katropa-Barangay Ginebra series.

As much as Durham wants to have a rematch with their tormentors, he knows that TNT also has the tools to make it as the Katropa defeated them last September 6, 113-107.

“It could be nice to have a rematch [with Ginebra],” admitted the reigning Best Import. “But TNT’s a great team, Ginebra’s a great team, [so] we gotta see how that series [will] finish out.

“But we’re going to prepare for both of them.”

There may still be uncertainties on how the other bracket will turn out, but for Durham, one thing is for sure: the Orangemen are hungrier than ever.

“Everybody since day one, since I came in, at the beginning of the conference, we all have one goal in mind. And now we gotta finish it,” said the Michigan-native.

“We’re one step closer.”
