National University is in great hands, as demonstrated by their impressive run to the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball championship.
For the first time ever in UAAP Volleyball Finals history, two players were named Spotify co-Finals Most Valuable Players.
Outside spiker Vange Alinsug and libero Shaira Jardio were both awarded the Spotify co-Finals MVP, each receiving ₱50,000, after the Lady Bulldogs completed their Finals sweep of the De La Salle Lady Spikers on Wednesday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Alinsug will now have the task of filling the significant offensive gap left by graduating spikers Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon.
Meanwhile, Jardio has proven she’s more than capable of leading National U’s defense and protecting the floor.
The third-year Alinsug was the Lady Bulldogs’ top scorer in their 25-17, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17 Game 1 victory, contributing 21 big points — and sending a clear message to the seniors that the team will continue to thrive even after their departure.
In the championship-clinching 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 Game 2 victory, Alinsug once again stepped up. She supported Belen with 10 points, including nine spikes and one block, while adding six digs and three receptions.
Meanwhile, Jardio took her performance to the next level in the Finals, delivering a brilliant showing with 28 excellent receptions and 18 excellent digs in Game 1. She then followed it up with 21 digs and 12 receptions in the straight-set Game 2.
On the other hand, La Salle’s Shevana Laput was named the AIA Defensive Player of the Finals. The 6-foot-2 opposite spiker registered four blocks in Game 1 and two rejections in Game 2, earning ₱50,000.
