UAAP Season LXXIX formally opens ‘Thomasian-style’

The new season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines officially opened in the tradition of hosts University of Santo Tomas, Saturday evening at the Plaza Mayor, UST campus.

The UST Symphony Orchestra, Coro Tomasino, Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble, and the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe performed in the short yet meaningful rites.

The highlight of the ceremony is the parade of athletes. And in true Thomasian tradition reminiscent of the Thomasian Freshman Walk, all delegates from the University officials, UAAP Board of Trustees, and of course, the student-athletes entered through the Arch of the Centuries towards the Plaza Mayor.

Rev. Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P., Rector of UST, declared the Games open. He also enjoined the athletes to reach for greater heights.

“It is when we dare to dream that we reach our biggest goals and win,” Fr. Dagohoy shared.

The opening ceremony likewise ended in grand UST style – a fireworks display – to usher in the new season
