UAAP 84: Adamson stays alive in Final Four race, ends UP’s hopes

Adamson University grabbed a piece of the fourth seed after eliminating University of the Philippines, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament, Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lady Falcons knotted Ateneo de Manila University at 7-6 heading into the final day of elimination round on Thursday with one last postseason ticket on the line.

Adamson will face De La Salle University at 12:30 pm on Thursday while the Blue Eagles will battle the Fighting Maroons at 6:30 pm.

“If we want na mag continue kami hanggang sa dulo, kailangan isa-isahin yung puntos ipanalo, isa-isahin yung set ipanalo. Nangyayari nakatingin kaagad sa dulo,” said Lady Falcons head coach Lerma Giron.

Ahead by just two, the Lady Falcons went on an 8-3 closing run to take the first set, 25-18, before UP answered in the second period, thanks to a 14-4 run midway for the equalizer, 25-16.

Knotted at 22 in the third frame, Louie Romero completed a 1-2 play before Alyssa Bertolano committed an attacking error. Then Trisha Genesis finished it with a through-the-block kill for the 2-1 Adamson set lead, 25-22.

The Lady Falcons then took it up a notch in the fourth, cruising to a 16-7 start on the way to a dominant 25-17 scoreline for the victory.

“Nakakastress. Sa kagustuhan ng lahat na magpatuloy pa lahat hanggang dulo, gumawa din ang lahat at nag-adjust,” shared Genesis.

Genesis led the Lady Falcons with 18 points and completed a triple-double with 13 excellent receptions and 12 digs.
