Top seeds score sweeps in Chook 3×3 Leg 2 pool stages

CALAMBA, LAGUNA — Top-ranked teams Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City Chooks, Uling Roasters-Butuan, Big Boss Cement-Porac MSC, and Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards swept their respective pools in Leg Two of the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup powered by TM, Friday afternoon.

Alvin Pasaol powered Zambo City to a dominant 21-13 (8:41) win over Pasig to sweep Pool B.

The second-ranked 3×3 player in the country tallied seven points in another all-around performance in this tournament that is sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board and endorsed by FIBA 3×3.

“One game at a time pa rin ang mindset namin,” said the Davao City-native as they head to the knockout playoffs that has P100,000 at stake against sister team Bacolod-Masters Sardines later in the day.

Equally impressive was Franky Johnson, who fired a day-high 14 markers to lead Butuan City to a 21-13 (5:58) triumph over Bicol-PAXFUL 3×3 Pro to win both of their games in Pool C.

“We gotta pace. It’s still a long day,” said Johnson.

Butuan will take on the Sarangani Marlins in the quarterfinals.

Nueva Ecija, on the other hand, relied on their steady big man Mac Sabellina to escape Sarangani, 21-16 (8:56), to gain the top seed in Pool A.

Closing out pool play was the fastest game of the day, a 21-11 (4:14) demolition by Porac of Pagadian Rocky Sports.

Ryan Monteclaro torched Pagadian to the tune of 10 points, all from two-point country.

Nueva Ecija faces Bicol while Porac squares off against Pasig in this tournament that is airing on BEAM TV Ch. 31, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas’ Facebook page, and FIBA 3X3’s YouTube channel.
