TNC’s huge wins over Team Nigma and Beastcoast proved to be enough as the Filipinos punched their ticket to the lower bracket playoffs of the WePlay AniMajor despite settling for a draw on the last day of the group stage, Monday night.
The Kings of Philippine Dota ended the group phase with a 2-3-2 win-draw-loss record – good for fifth the fifth place behind Filipino star midlaner Abed “Abed” Yusop’s Evil Geniuses who are at the fourth spot with a win, five draws, and a loss.
Armel “Armel” Tabios’ Puck stole the show in Game One against Team Spirit, putting on 17 kills and 23 assists against just two deaths to keep the Filipinos’ upper bracket hopes alive.
However, a fine Magnus performance from Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov proved to be enough to shut down TNC in Game Two – capping off their group stage campaign with a draw.
Chinese squad PSG.LGD (4-3-0) and Team Nigma (4-2-1) – whose sole loss came from TNC – placed first and second, respectively, as they advanced to the upper bracket round.
Vici Gaming placed third with a 2-4-1 standing while Team Spirit settled for the final spot in the lower bracket at sixth place with a 0-5-2 card.
Syed “Sumail” Hassan’s Team Liquid and Beastcoast received the boot as they finished the group stage with 1-3-3 and 0-3-4, respectively.
TNC will start its playoffs campaign on June 9, Tuesday against the loser between Team Aster and fellow Southeast Asian squad T1.
