Tiongson grabs 16 boards as Taoyuan falls to New Taipei anew in T1

Caelan Tiongson and Taoyuan still could not find the answer against New Taipei, falling 72-85 in the 2021-22 T1 League season, Saturday at Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science Shao Tsung Gymnasium.

Tiongson had another excellent rebounding outing, grabbing 16 rebounds along with nine points, three assists, and two steals but it was not enough to lift the Leopards.

Down 46-41 early in the third canto, the CTBC DEA went on a 19-0 blast to leave the Leopards in the dust. Mohammad Al Bachir Gadiaga scored 13 points in the rally, firing three treys during the spurt.

Though Yu Mengyun was able to cut the lead down to seven early in the final frame, Gadiaga and Marlon Johnson nailed big shots to stop the bleeding and restore order.

This is the second time Taoyuan lost to New Taipei this season, losing 77-85 last December 11.

Gadiaga led the way for New Taipei with 28 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field with 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Johnson added 15 points and 11 rebounds while Hsieh Yahsuan got 12 points. Prince Ibeh also tallied 10 points and eight rebounds for the 3-3 CTBC DEA.

Aleksandar Mitrović fired 25 points for the Leopards, who dropped to 1-3 in the standings. Du Yucheng and Daniel Orton had 12 and 10 points respectively with the latter also grabbing 13 rebounds.

Tiongson and New Taipei will next face Tainan tomorrow at 3:00PM.
