SMART Omega completes sweep of Wild Rift: Icon Series South Luzon

Smart Omega Esports went undefeated in the South Luzon group stage of the League of Legends: Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon Series-Summer Season to punch its ticket to the playoffs, Sunday night.

After a strong first week, Omega Esports took it up a notch in the following matches – sweeping Execration and Sunsparks before settling for a 2-1 result against the Globe-powered Liyab Esports.

The team then manhandled Execration, Sunsparks, and Liyab, respectively, to cap off their undefeated campaign heading to the playoffs.

The Smart-backed squad ended the group stage with an immaculate 9-0 record to bag a total of ₱450,000 in the South Luzon leg.

Omega only dropped two games in all of the 20 matches they played. Execration and Sunsparks, who are now both eliminated, were the only teams to score a single game against the powerhouse squad.

John Lloyd “Impressive” Dela Cruz impressed in the group stage, picking up a total of seven Most Valuable Player plums – the most in the South Luzon leg – while Gerald “Taymlaps” Bermundo collected four MVP awards which tied for third.

Completing the squad are Maynard “Arise” Limon, Jaiby “JLC” Paglingayen, and Ronel “Stronger” Tan.

Omega Esports, as well as Liyab Esports, who finished the group stage with a 5-4 record for the second place, became the third and fourth team to qualify for the playoffs after Nexplay Esports and Team Secret topped the North Luzon group stage.

Sunsparks, meanwhile, finished third with a 3-6 card while Execration, who only won a game in nine outings, was the last team in the four-team group.
